Grand Ole Opry Welcomes Darius Rucker As Its Newest Member

Oct 04, 2012 -- 12:20pm
In the four years since Darius Rucker left Hootie and the Blowfish to begin a career in Country music, he has had 5 number one hit singles and was named the 2009 CMA New Artist of the Year.  Now, he has earned Country's highest honor by becoming the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.
During his performance at the Opry on October 2nd, Darius was joined on stage by his good buddy, Brad Paisley, began a question-and-answer session with, "My question is in two parts.  Are you still the worst poker player in the world? ... Other question is would you like to be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry?"
To which the totally surprised singer replied, "You're kidding me? Tonight? Really? No..."
 "You haven't answered," Brad interjected.
Darius then accepted by responding, "Yes, I would."
Later that evening he shared his thoughts about how jazzed he is by becoming a part of something this prestigeous, saying, "Being backstage and seeing the people who are just hanging out.  Every time I'm here and Little Jimmy Dickens comes up to me and says, 'Hello.' It's amazing to come here because there are so many artists. Last time I was here, Vince Gill was just hanging out. Being here in the circle is amazing."
Now, if the Miami Dolphins could just win a Super Bowl during his adulthood, Darius Rucker's life will be complete...
