Blake Shelton Was the Big Winner at Last Night's CMAs

Nov 02, 2012 -- 5:51am

It was BLAKE SHELTON night at last night's "46th Annual CMA Awards".  He won the Male Vocalist trophy, the Entertainer of the Year award . . . and he shared the Song of the Year honors with MIRANDA LAMBERT for "Over You"

Meanwhile, LITTLE BIG TOWN had their biggest night ever, thanks to their monster hit "Pontoon".  It won Single of the Year . . . and had enough momentum to help them grab the Vocal Group of the Year award.

JASON ALDEAN opened the night performing "The Only Way I Know" . . . and was joined by LUKE BRYAN and ERIC CHURCH.  It set a nice tone.

Your reliable co-hosts BRAD PAISLEY and CARRIE UNDERWOOD kept things moving . . . and wow...how awesome their "Gangnam Style" parody was . . . mostly because Carrie nailed the moves while wearing spike heels.

And just when the show needed a jolt, we got it when Miranda Lambert came out rocking black leather pants, tearing through"Fastest Girl in Town".  It brought everyone to their feet.

ERIC CHURCH performed "Springsteen" . . . no surprise that "Chief" won Album of the Year . . . because it WAS the best album of the year.

The big emotional moment of the night was when Miranda and Blake shared the award for Song of the Year honor for "Over You".  Blake said the song was inspired by his brother, who died in a car wreck when Blake was 14.  There were tears.

The most elaborate staging I've ever seen at the CMAs was when TAYLOR SWIFT performed "Begin Again".  A French cafe with tables and the Eiffel Tower?  Weird.

And then there was the WILLIE NELSON tribute . . . and his very brief thank you.  He said, quote, "This is a great award and I appreciate it very much.  Thank you, CMA.  Thank you, Nashville.  I love all of you out there, thank you, I appreciate it."
