President Obama Cancels Orlando Visit, Reacts To Colorado Shootings

Jul 20, 2012 -- 10:48am

President Obama has canceled a late day campaign event in the Orlando area after the tragic shootings in Colorado. A campaign event in Fort Myers is expected to be toned-down after a gunman opened fire in a crowded theater in Aurora, Colorado. At least 12 people are confirmed dead and dozens were injured in the overnight shootings. The suspected gunman is in police custody. The White House says the President was awakened before dawn and informed about the tragedy.

The president says the aftermath of the shooting massacre in Colorado should remind the nation that, quote, "We are united as one American family." At the campaign event in Fort Myers, Obama called it a "heinous crime." He said, "Such violence, such evil, is senseless."
