Jan 16, 2014 -- 9:37am

The Boot - In a surprise move, Trace Adkins has entered rehab after slipping off the wagon.

The singer, who has been candid about battling with alcohol in the past, had been sober for 12

years, but during his stint on the Country Cruising entertainment cruise he apparently let his guard

Adkins was the top-billed act on the cruise, which also features Montgomery GentryWynonna

JuddCraig Morgan and more. The cruise kicked off Jan. 12 and is slated to run until Jan. 19, but

Adkins has decided to depart the run early.

According to TMZ, Adkins was in the ship’s bar during the trip to Jamaica when something

happened that touched off a fight between him and a Trace Adkins impersonator who was singing

karaoke. The site reports that a physical altercation followed, and that Adkins departed for rehab

after the ship docked in Jamaica.

“Trace has entered a treatment facility after a setback in his battle with alcoholism,” a spokesmen

for the singer confirms to Country Weekly. “As he faces these issues head-on, we ask that his

family’s privacy will be respected.”

In 2002 Adkins completed a 28-day stay in a rehab facility near Nashville, after pleading guilty to

DUI charges the previous year.
