A Couple Walking Their Dog in California Find $10 Million in Buried Treasure

Feb 26, 2014 -- 5:00am
A husband and wife in a rural area of northern California were out walking their dog recently, when they spotted something sticking out of the ground on their property. It was an old, rusty metal can that had become visible because of erosion. And when they popped open the can . . . they found $10 MILLION worth of GOLD COINS inside. There were 1,427 coins, all from 1847 to 1894. The couple's property is in the area where the California gold rush happened in the mid-1800s.A coin-collecting expert named Don Kagin is helping the couple out. He says, quote, "I don't like to say once-in-a-lifetime for anything, but you don't get an opportunity to handle this kind of material, a treasure like this, ever."He believes this is the most valuable buried treasure anyone's ever found in the U.S.
